Rationale

Basic principles of science are used to study the structure-properties relationships of various materials for their proper applications in this subject. Especially study of different types of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys, in terms of their composition, structure, properties and applications; non-destructive testing are included in this course to understand the basic concept of selection and processing of metals and materials for their applications.

Course Outcome

At the end of this course students will be able to:

  1. Understand the basic concept of Material Science and Metallurgy.
  2. Know about the ferrous and non ferrous metals and alloys and their applications.
  3. Understand different non-destructive testing methods.
  4. Find the causes and prevention of metallic corrosion.
  5. Judge the Scope and limitations of different materials.

Active Learning

Preparation of power-point slides, which include videos, animations, pictures, graphics for better understanding theory and practical work – The faculty will allocate chapters/ parts of chapters to groups of students so that the entire syllabus to be covered. The power-point slides should be put up on the web-site of the College/ Institute, along with the names of the students of the group, the name of the faculty, Department and College on the first slide. The best three works should submit to GTU.
