Rationale
This course provides an in depth study of the area of web data management covering XML,XLink, and XPointer. The course primarily covers the state of the art in designing and building web applications and services, primarily focusing on issues and challenges that revolve around the management and processing of data. It also highlights the concepts of Ontology, RDF and OWL. It covers Building Web scale applications using web search, web crawlers, Web Graph mining, Map Reduce etc.
Course Outcome
After learning the course, the student will be able:
1. To understand the overall vision of the Semantic Web
2. To analyze the current technology stack (URIs, XML, RDF/S, OWL)
3. To understand how one could use these technologies for building something useful
4. To define and test an ontology
5. To define schema mappings
6. To install and use tools for semantic data management

Active Learning
Preparation of power-point slides: which include videos, animations, pictures, graphics for better understanding theory and practical work. The faculty will allocate chapters/ parts of chapters to groups of students so that the entire syllabus can be covered. The power-point slides should be put up on the web-site of the College/ Institute, along with the names of the students of the group, the name of the faculty, Department and College on the first slide.
